Google Docs Critical Analysis

One of today’s largest and best new technologies are Google. Google is extremely helpful with many of their products like Gmail, YouTube accounts, and their recent venture into social networking with Google+. But perhaps their most advanced and innovative product, Google Drive is one of the most useful tools in today’s world of business, education, and countless other fields of professional use. It was released on April 24th, 2012, as a beta and is now a stable open source program. Google Drive gives the user cloud storage so you can store documents from anywhere with an internet connection, file sharing so you can show other people your document without making copies of the original, and collaborative editing which allows you to add many different people to come together and edit a document together. Not only can you make documents with Google Drive, but you can create spreadsheets, presentations and much more. Google Drive is also a great place for storage with a free 15 GB quota but you can buy even more storage also. With all these features, Google Drive is an incredible branch of the Google franchise.

Google Drive can be used in a business setting in many ways. One way is for storage of not only documents, but presentations, videos, books, and many more mediums. Google Drive is able to hold up to 15 terabytes of data for a small fee per month. This number is climbing also. Soon they’ll be able to hold even more than that. Another way you can use Google Drive in a business setting is sharing documents with your co-workers. This way, you can work on documents together without having to make 50 different copies of the same document and making corrections to each one. This increases productivity by a lot. Not only can you make documents, but you can create incredible power point presentations, eliminating the need to buy Microsoft PowerPoint. You can also create spreadsheets which eliminates the need to buy Microsoft Excel too. The only downside to using Google Docs for business is that it may not be up to the same quality as Microsoft products.

Google Drive is now a pivotal program in the world of education. With Google Drive, kids can share their projects and essays with their partners to collaborate and finish their work together. Also, you can share your project with the teacher so the teacher sees who wrote what and make notes directly on the paper to help correct mistakes. Without Google Drive, projects would be a lot harder to complete since you’d have to send hard copies of Word documents to your partner and then you’d have to out together what you wrote and everything just gets really complicated. Also, you can work on a project at school and you’d be able to work on it a home also. The downside of Google Drive is that if there’s no internet connection available, you won’t be able to work on your project.
